Figuring the length of your films

film chartMovie film length is determined by the diameter (distance across) of the film on the reel. Many of the films that come to the Leave A Legacy studios in Fort Collins and Denver are 3 inches across and on blue plastic reels. These are 50 feet long when they are full. The attached chart shows the length of film on different sizes of reels.

We can fit about 1800 feet of film on to one playable DVD. Other clients choose to have their uncompressed video files to use at home. These take a lot of space.

If you don’t want to be bothered with determining the length yourself – you can rest assured that the Leave A Legacy team will do it for you before we begin transfer.
